Music Monday-ish

Okay, so I didn't forget about Music Monday or anything terrible like that, Its just I have been sooo busy designing (Personalized Chirstmas presents are a pain, but a huge hit!) and doing other Brightside stuff. So this week I am not going to go off about my new favoite artist, but I will post a song that I can't stop listening to. Remi started playing it about 2 weeks ago, I had to buy it on iTunes, I did, and I can't stop playing it. I hope you enjoy this lovely song!

Music Monday: Matt Costa

Oh Monday, how I adore you and hate you oh so much at the same time, I hate you cause when you show up it means no more weekend and time for work, but I love you cause you mean I get to blog about one of my favorite artists (it also means new episode of Hawaii 5-0, which is my guilty pleasure, so we will just keep that one between us). This week I have been listening to mostly Christmas music (Which I absolutley love) and I haven't really been looking for new artists to enjoy, so I thought I would blog about one of my past/all time favs. This winter Monday we are talking about Matt Costa.

I don't even know where to begin. So I guess I will start by saying; I LOVE MATT COSTA. I have been listening to him for a very long time, I have so many memories locked in with his music, so I love listening to him and I love whenever he releases to stuff too. His first album, Songs we Sing is easily in my top 5 favorite albums of all time. And his second album, Unfamiliar Faces is easily in that top 5 as well. He has so many good songs, its hard to choose a favorite, so I just have to say his first 2 albums are my favorite. Speaking of trying to choose just one, I started making a playlist to put with this post, and I couldn't seem to narrow the list down, I stared at all of his songs and just kept adding and adding to the new playlist, when I was done it had all but 2 songs from his first album and 3 from his second. I seriously can't emphasize enough on how much I absolutly love his music (and him of course).

So I eventually did narrow my play list down- but it wasn't easy. I hope you love his songs as much as I do. If there is only one Music Monday artist that you actually listen to and get into I hope it is Matt Costa! So take a gander at the songs I have compiled, if you love them please check out all of his albums (especially his first 2, I love his third, but its doesn't the amout of awesome the first 2 hold) And if I can Im going to try really really hard to find a Chirstmas song he does.. wish me luck!!

Have a wonderful wintery week!

I don't know if you noticed, but I do have a thing for harmonicas :) Hope you enjoyed these songs.

Oh and something for the holidays:

Music Monday: The Archer's Apple

Those of you readers who either know me in person, or only know me from reading my blog posts you probably know that I LOVE LOCAL BANDS!! And if you did not know such thing, you do now! It is absolutely true.. I love local bands. It helps I come from a town with great local musicians, but I love local bands from UT, and also everywhere that has local bands! If you are ever interested in bands local to Provo, let me know we can have a long lovely chat! I would love to start that chat now, but today we are talking about just one local lovely: The Archer's Apple.

I must have heard of The Archer's Apple like a year and a half ago, and fell in love with them instantly. And after hearing one song your going to be like, "well its no wonder why you fell instantly in love with them, they are fantastic!" And ill be like "oh my goodness I know right?!? Aren't they fantastic just like me?" Then the convo would go on further, but we will just leave it at that!

So there are many many reason why I have chosen this band to blog about on this Monday, here are a few:
1. Being straight forward: They rock my socks.
2. I am madly in love with the lead singer.
3. I recently came across a new song of theirs and can't get it out of my head cause its just so darn good.
4. I found an older mix on my comp and one of their songs were on it and it reminded me how much I love them.
5. And last but not least. I just found out they have a kickstarter going, and you know how much I love me some kickstarter.com (so check it out and donate to help them make their first full length album- I know you're probably thinking, how have they not made a cd yet, they are so great, and I know its crazy, so go donate so we can have a dance party with their new cd!)

Like I was saying, I love this band, and I am pretty sure you willl too after hearing this song I have found for your ears to enjoy. Check them out on the facebook, and don't forget their kickstarter page.

If you come across any new music, let me know. I LOVE finding new bands :)

Music Monday: Zee Avi

Oh my!! I can't believe it has been three whole weeks since I last blogged! I guess recently life has done that funny thing it does when it just throws things at you left and right and you just keep running around like a crazy person juggling all of the craziness you have been thrown. Yeah that's kinda where I have been at.. But I am back, ready to blog, cause even with all the craziness I have still been able to find some GREAT artists! This week talking about just one: Zee Avi :)

Zee Avi is probably my favorite female singer- I know, its hard to pick just one, but if I had to I would pick her. If you don't know she is on Brushfire Records (Jack Johnson, Matt Costa, all of my favorite artists pretty much!) So she does have that smooth singer song writer feel, as well as a nice beachy feel to it too. Either way, its fantastic and I LOVE it!

I have compiled a couple of my favorite Zee Avi songs. I really wanted to post all of her songs cause I love it so so much. But I thought I would just post my favs and hopefully you love it and go out and buy her albums! I must admit there is a lot of craziness going on in my mind as of late (especially today) so if I have chosen more sad than happy songs I apologize, and please don't think all of her songs are sad, Its just how I have been feeling I guess.

Okay enough of that :) as usual: check her out on the facebook, check out the songs I posted below and if you love them check out all of her work- great great stuff!

Enjoy your week, peace out girl scout

Music Monday: Go To Songs

Go to songs: Songs in which you can listen to always; it does not matter your mood, the day, the time, the weather, or your state of mind. These songs some how manage to satisfy you, or give you whatever it is you need from a song at the given time.

Alright, so i'm pretty sure by this stage you are thinking: What the hell are you talking about and did you just make up your own definition for a phrase you made up. And the answers are pretty easy: I am talking about those songs that you can listen to at any time in your life and you like them. The songs when you can't find a song you want to listen to so you pop one of these on and you feel satisfied. I don't know if many of you have songs to this extreme like me, but I know everyone has those songs that you just love no matter what kind of state you are in. And yes I'm pretty sure I have made up the statement "go to songs" and I have written the definition for it.
So what does this mean for Music Monday? It means I am going to share my go to songs with the world. Okay so maybe just our blog readers, but its all the same to me! (I am very invested in my blogging!) Obviously if I posted all of my go to songs it would be quite the playlist, so I have narrowed my list down to my absolute favorite go to songs. I hope you enjoy them because these are the songs that I love no matter the date the time the weather or my state of mind. Enjoy!

Alrighty, so the hardest part about this playlist was dealing with the fact that these songs are just super random, some fast, some slow, some silly, some serious. I think one of these days I may just seperate my go to list into smaller lists. Yeah, I think ill do that.

Music Monday: Seeker Lover Keeper

Monday is here again! Which means Music Monday is here again! YAY! After last weeks extremely long blog post I thought I would simplify my Music Monday post on this lovely Monday. So to cut to the chase, this week we are talking: Seeker Lover Keeper.

First off, I LOVE their name, I think it fits their music perfectly! Second, if you haven't heard of them, I hope I have just introduced you to one of your new favorite bands! and third if you haven't heard of them it is a band made up of three fantastic artists that Remi introduced me to; Sarah Blasko, Sally Seltmann and Holly Throsby then she informed me that they had collaborated and together make up Seeker Lover Keeper. I am now madly in love with all three of their individual music and now their collab project is in my top favorite artists, and I hope either one of the three or Seeker Lover Keeper is now in your top favs!  And fourth, I hope you enjoy the videos below (My favorite is "Even Though I'm a Woman") and if you love it go check out their site, more specifically their video page on their site. And of course go "like" them on the facebook (PS. if you like them on facebook, they have their whole album on it- take a listen!) and if you are into that twittering thing (I'm obsessed lately!) go follow them and tweet at them!

Enjoy, and have a pleasant week!

BANDIT!

It’s been a busy week! We finally got the BANDIT finished! He cute and cuddly but oh so dangerous! He will steal your heart so watch out. This little guy isn’t up in our etsy shop yet. But if you just can’t wait any longer to have him we are selling him at the farmers market. So come say hey and grab up one of these sneaky guys. Also, we are currently on the quest for some new printing space. We’ve been looking at warehouses and any other space that looks interesting. Don’t get me wrong I love the garage and all, but man it gets cold in the winter. We don’t want to stop printing shirts just because the weather and I love my toes and fingers too much to put them through that again. So the quest begins. Wish us luck!

Send a letter!

I know I’m always going on about how much I love snail mail. But oh, how I do love it! Nothing is better than getting a letter in the mail that’s not junk mail or ads. I did THIS post a while ago. Recently people have been talking about how much debt the post office is in blah blah political mumbo jumbo. Now there talking about closing branches and not delivering on Friday or Saturday. That makes my heart very sad. I was reading THIS and a little bit of THAT to try and inform my little brain of the happenings. But in conclusion I just like writing letters. I encourage everyone I know to write more letters and take advantage of our postal services. You have to send a letter to get a letter. So, what are you waiting for go write someone a letter and make there day. I’m off to go use up my pretty new stationery and make someone else’s mail box happy.

Music Monday: Greg Holden

Hey-O!! Zoei here on this lovely Music Monday!! I look forward to blogging about my current music fav each and every Monday, but usually I have no idea what artist to blog about until I sit down and start typing.. but currently I have been listening to a certain awesome somebody in my car and have absolutely fallen in love with him. This week we are talking Greg Holden!

Okay, so I first have to start by saying Greg Holden is seriously one of the cutest guys ever, and has one of the best voices I have heard in a long time (and he has an accent-- how much cuter can you get than that?) Second I have to say he writes a damn good song! I totally love everything about his songs, they are catchy, yet unique and the singablillity is in the excellent range (who doesn't like singing?)

There is just so much to love about Greg Holden, his looks, his accent, his amazing song writing skills. Its actually pretty amazing that I haven't blogged about him thus far. I have had his album in my car for a while, but never really left it in the player, until this last week. Remi and I must have gone through the whole album 15 times and there were just so many songs on the album that I desperately want to share with the world, okay just our blog readers! So I think that is my rant on Greg Holden and all of his awesomeness.. So check out his YouTube Channel and of course like him on Facebook and if you are a twitter-er follow him on Twitter..  Here are some of my favorite songs; but check out youtube for tons more greatness!

Have a great week!

Oh, where does the time go?

Yup, that’s right. Summer is near its end. The pool has been drained, the kiddos are back in school and it’s almost time to pull out all the sweaters. I know you’re sad, I am too. Well maybe just a little. Oh how I do love the fall. To be honest I got out all the sweaters a couple weeks ago. I can’t believe it’s almost October. I know Zoei doesn’t want to admit it but it’s almost time to put away the shorts. Although I’m pretty sure Zoei is going to be wearing her summer clothes until there is snow on the ground. Overall I think we had a good summer. Being lazy and eating way too much food, you can’t go wrong with that.

Music Monday: Surfing with Switchfoot

Is it Music Monday already?!? Why yes, yes it is! And I (Zoei) am quite excited because today I am featuring a band that allows me to not only blog about music but also surfing. For those of you who don't know I absolutely love everything about surfing. I follow the world tour religiously, and update my fantasy surfing team more often then I update my facebook status. So any guesses on who the lucky music monday artist is this week?? If you guessed Switchfoot, you guessed right!

Now I know Switchfoot is very different than any other music I have blogged about, and I'm sure once Remi reads this she's going to think I am crazy for choosing such a mainstream band that I haven't really listened to much, and I don't know if its because their music reminds me of surfing or what it is, but I do enjoy a lot of their songs. And come on their name is Switchfoot, which is awesome to begin with! (Its when you switch your stance while surfing if you didn't know)

So it is a little harder for me to write much about Switchfoot, mainly because I have just recently gotten into their music, and they have so much and I just haven't been able to listen through all of it, but I'm sure once I do I will have a whole list of songs I can blog about. But until then I have found a couple videos of the Hurley Pro, which just ended last week that have their songs as a lovely background. I didn't sleep much or get much of anything done last week, because I was watching this comp religiously all week- and I loved every minute of it. Again that might be the reason I have recently fallen in love with Switchfoot, but either way, I have found a new music love so it doesn't really matter! Watch the videos, let me know what you think (of the surfing and of the music) and also if you are already a Switchfoot lover, let me know which songs to look up, like I said they are a recent fav so I don't know much of their older stuff!. Enjoy and have a great week! Don't forget, if you have a band or artist you think I should feature next monday comment us away!

Here is GREAT video with a great song! I was going to post the video on here, but sadly I couldn't get the video to work so I just posted the link- so please check it out if you have a minute or two! I seriously must have watched this heat easily 10 times-- it was a great heat and this video shows a ton of the great highlights of the heat! Also if you watch the whole thing Julian Wilson does a switch-footed spin after the last cutback on the 9 point wave- I thought it was fitting!

This is another great video with a great song as well! It is of 2 of my favorite surfers surfing the semifinals with a great Switchfoot song playing. Its a great video that highlights the heat and also its a great song to go with it.

New Found Friend

Happy FRIDAY! So, I was walking the other day and found this little gem in the street. Do you see what I see?

That’s right an old-timey boxer! He’s my new best friend. (Although don’t tell Zoei) I’m pretty sure he could beat me up. Doesn’t he look tough? I think it’s the mustache or maybe the freakishly long arms. Either way I’m not going to mess with this guy. You’re mission for the weekend is to find something ordinary (like random tar in the street) and make it something new and unique. Now hop to it!

A random thought, I found out there is a fine line between mittens and boxing gloves. Well, at least when your drawing them.

Music Monday: Mason Jennings

Why hello Monday! You sure came quick this week, I swear I just barely saw you like 6 days ago, I would normally feel like you were a little intrusive in my life, but luckily for you I now have Music Monday. So I forgive you for coming around so often, oh and I just got a new CD and I have been dying to blog about it!This week we are talking Mason Jennings!

I have adored Mason Jennings for a very long time, and just last week he released his 11th full album (I think 11, im pretty sure im not missing any, but that could be wrong!) Anyways his new album is FANTASTIC!! Okay ALL of his albums are fantastic, but this new one is going to be in my top albums for a long time.

If you are not familiar with Mason Jennings music, you are definietly missing out! So for all of you who are not super familiar with him, I have compiled a lovely mix of some of my fav Mason songs. I hope you like them just as much as I do, he is a great artist and is always coming out with better and better songs! If you like the songs I chose, go check out all of his other stuff at his site: HERE. And of course go "like" him on Facebook: HERE. Also check out his newest album: Minnesota. I couldnt find any songs from the newest album, but I totally recommend you go out and buy it anyways! As always I would love to go on and on about my favorite songs, but ill let them speak for themselves. Enjoy!

I love the rain the most.

Oh, how I do love the rain.  Anyone that knows me knows that I love the fall and nothing says fall like a chilly weekend of rain. Luckily it didn’t rain on us at the famers market on Saturday. I mean I love the rain and all but it seems to drive away people. The weather today is perfect! Warm in the sun and cool in the shade. Definitely sweater weather and I love sweaters it’s the best part about fall. It even is starting to smell like fall.  I need to make sure to get out of the house today and soak up all the loveliness around. Happy weekend.

Along came a spider.

Yep, it’s true. We just completed a re-print of the spider tee shirt! This is one of my favorite designs done by the fabulous Zoei! We sell this design the most which is understandable because he is just so darn cute and creepy! That also means they don’t last long, so snatch it up before it’s too late! With Halloween and fall just around the corner this shirt is a must have.  But for real’s, we are going to be selling this guy at the farmers market, so its sure to go quick!

Change can be good.

If you haven’t noticed the Brightside blog is looking a little different.  I think the biggest change we made (beside the color) is the navigation bar. We added some pages with nifty new things. You can learn more about the Brightside girlies in the about us tab and send us some e-mails in the contact tab. Also you have easy access to our facebook, etsy store and our flickr page.  So, take a moment and clickity click around.  Let us know what you think! Do you hate the new color? Or maybe you love it? I personally think all the new changes are pretty spiffy, but that just my opinion.
On random side note, one of my favorite singer song writers Mason Jennings just released a new album, called Minnesota. It’s a piano based album and I’m absolutely in love with it. The music video to Bitter Heart is fantastic. Not only do I love this song, but I LOVE VINTAGE CAMERAS. I've always been facinated with through the viewfinder photography and this video just melts my heart.  HERE is a great thing I found from the lovely Photojojo blog that shows a little more about through the viewfinder photography. I think I need to go buy myself a new vintage camera.

Canning Adventures

A couple of weekends ago me and the sisters canned some salsa! I was going to blog about how canning works and some great recipes to use. But…I really didn’t do anything to help out besides lend an extra hand to scoop and wash dishes. I felt like was helping a lot, but defiantly not running the show.  But I feel like the canning adventures of the Germaine sisters is worthy enough to blog about.

First I must say growing up cooking in the kitchen is pretty fantastic. Even as we all get older its weird to think how many hours we all spent together in the kitchen cooking and cleaning. I’ve never really canned anything before until now, but the process is pretty simple. One, prepare food to be canned. Two, sterilize and clean some jars. Three, fill the jars then steam them shut. Seems pretty simple right? Well, it is. It is a lot of work, especially if you’re doing a large batch. But it’s the fun kind of work. We made some very yummy salsa. I probably don’t appreciate all the hard work yet. But once its winter and my quesadilla is lonely popping open a jar of homemade salsa sounds fantastic. One thing that I did learn is that hard work always goes by faster if you’re listening to music. This applies not just to canning or cooking but also cleaning and other mundane chores. So, long story short. Canning is fun and oh so very yummy.  It’s a lot of work, but can be fun when you surround yourself with good tunes and people you like.

Music Monday: Spencer Glenn

Its that time of week again, the beginging, the start, the Monday. Which usually means back to work, back to school, back to waking up early and being exhausted. But luckily for you, I have taken it upon myself to blog each and every (mostly every I should say) Monday about my new music fav. This gives you something to read, and most importantly it gives you something to listen to and make you happy all Monday long!!

This week Music Monday is going local, my ears fell in love a couple weeks back at the Provo Farmers Market (We sell there every Saturday if you didnt know!) Also if you didnt know Provo has some SUPER GREAT music! I could go off and name a ton of great bands and singer song writers, but this week we are focusing on one: Spencer Glenn.

Like I said I first heard of Spencer Glenn at the Provo Farmers Market, and absolutly loved his voice.. and his very catchy songs. Its hard to say exactly what other artists he is like, the best I would have to say like a Jack Johnson and Eric Hutchinson mix, but even then that just doesnt cover it, hes got like a poppy spin on a classic singer song writer feel. Either way its just fantastic, my ears love it and I love it, and thats all that matters, right?  I would love to on and on about all of his songs, but I think the best way for you to fully understand the amount of awesome he brings to his music, is for you to take a listen for yourself. So go take a listen and "like" him on Facebook --->HERE<--Then head on over to youtube and check out his Youtube channel-->HERE<--- and come down to the Farmers Market the next time he is playing, also go check out his other gigs posted on his facebook. You can bet that I will be there-- supporting not only one of my new favorite artists, but also supporting the local music scene! Oh yeah did I mention he does a great Bob Marley cover song?? (Refer to youtube for said Bob cover)
I hope you enjoy the video, as well as all the music on his facebook-- Have a great week.. I will be back next week for another music Monday! And remember Friday is only 4 days away!

Music Monday: Augustana

Okay first I should start by saying, yes I know this was not posted until Tuesday, but let me explain. I felt that since it was Labor Day weekend, most people didnt go back to work till Tuesday, so I thought I would wait to post this and give all of you something to listen to on Tuesday! Fair enough? I hope this doesnt make you think anything less of me, and if so then this is Remi writing this blog today, not Zoei.

So now that we got that out of the way lets get to Music Monday!! (Yes I will still call it Music Monday, even though it was not posted until Tuesday- If you have a problem, bring this up with me, Remi. Not Zoei) Sooo who are we going to be chatting about this lovely day?? One of my favorite bands that I have loved for a very long time now: Augustana.

I know most people know who they are and I know most of you know all of the lyrics to"Boston" and usually that would make me not want to feature them on our blog, but then I pop in one of their cds and *BAM* all I want to do is dance my pants off and share their great music with everyone I come in contact with.

Now I know Boston is in fact a great song.. But believe it or not its not my favorite Augustana song. And another fact you might not know: their 2nd album in my opinion is better than their 1st. Thats just my opinion, I mean not that the 1st one sucks or anything, both albums are in my top favorites, but their 2nd is just a few albums closer to mynumber 1 favorite album (which I have not and probably will not ever disclose, mostly cause it is constantly changing, and I would hate to offend any of my other favs- cause in my head they care)I know their 1st album: All the Stars and Boulevards has great songs on it such as Boston, Hotel Roosevelt, and Mayfield.. BUT their 2nd album: Can't Love, Can't Hurt has songs such as: Hey Now, Fire, Either Way I'll Break Your Heart and so many more. Can't Love, Can't Hurt is just one of those albums that you can toss on and not have to go next on any song. Again All the Stars and Boulevards come close to that, but if we are being honest, there are a couple songs that I push the next button on. And then there is their 3rd album: Augustana, which I love as well, but (theres always a but) I do feel it is the weakest of the three. Its a great album and I absolutly love "Steal Your Heart" (its just so darn catchy) But over all its a little poppy for me.

So now that I have told you all what I think about Augustana's discography, I challenge you, well maybe not so much a challenge, but I have a job for you. Listen to all three of their albums, decide for yourself which one you think is radtastic, which one is just rad and which one is good, but not as good as the others. Then shoot me a comment either on here or on our facebook (here) and let me know what you have come up with.. I would love to know!!

Thanks so much for reading, I know I probably bored you, but following this I have posted a song from each album! Enjoy

-Zoei (Yes its me, not Remi, but all negative comments can still go to Remi :)

Get a playlist! Standalone player Get Ringtones

So above is a couple of my  favorite Augustana songs.. Also I could not find the song below to add to the above playlist, so be sure to listen to that one as well.. and don't forget to tell me what you think of it all!

Under Construction!

If you hadn’t noticed we are working on making some changes to our blog. Mostly to make it look pretty and new. It’s been a while since we update our layout and what not. I didn’t think it was going to take us this long to change things, but it turns out I’m not as computer savvy as I would like to be. So, things are kind of a mess right now. We are adding some new things that I’m very excited about! Thanks to tutorials from PUGLY PIXEL  our blog is going to be new and spiffy in no time!

Linocuts!

I’m always working on new projects! This week’s project is linoleum block prints! I love print making! Obviously screen printing is one kind of printing that I absolutely love! But I adore all kinds of print making! Especially block printing! For those of you who haven’t ever heard of linocuts before read THIS! It’s a really cool way of printing. It’s super easy too! You can find all the stuff you need at the craft store and you don’t need to buy expensive equipment. I personally love doing little ones. There almost like little stamps. They don’t take very long so you can do these really quick. You can use them for all kinds of things like, cards, stickers, fancy labels or adding embellishments on to anything. Any ways the point to my rambling is…go and make some prints!

Here are some stickers I made! I like using lables and things like that to print on, that way the are already sticky. You can get circle ones or just get big shipping labels and cut them to the shape you want.

Rolling out your ink can be kinda messy. (but fun) So if you have a small linocut you can use a stamp pad. You can even mount your little linocuts onto a piece of wood, like an actual stamp. But that takes time and I'm lazy, so I just get my fingers messy.

Just a little side note: Letters and numbers need to be carved backwards. So when you do your print it reads correctly. (Trust me you will only make that mistake once.)

Speedy carve blocks are also amazing. It will save your fingers from blisters and make it easier. Although it won't last as long. If your at the store and have to chose between Speedball and Moo Carve, get the Moo Carve. It lasts way longer then Speedball. (Don't get me wrong I love speedball as much as the next guy.)

Don't forget to look at our ETSY for new things comming and going. Also cure your bordem and click HERE and make your ears love you.

Music Monday: Michael Trent.

Its that time of week again!! MUUSSSIC MONDAAAAY!! Okay, so I know Monday is almost over, and Im kinda lame like that, but its cool, hopefully the music featured on todays Music Monday blog will make up for the lack of Monday in Music Monday. So im gonna cut to the chase, today we are talking Michael Trent. Why yes my heart did just go all fluttery.

So who is this Michael Trent I speak of you ask?? Well only one of the coolest guys ever! He is the lead singer to one of my favorite bands, The Films. Who has gone on and done some solo stuff, and some stuff with other people, so lets take a stroll down memory lane together and vist Michael Trent in the past to current years. Hopefully the playlist below works and you can read a little about each song as we stroll along.

Farmers Market

The Brightside girlies have been very busy this last week. Doing what you might ask? The FARMERS MARKET of course! We survived our first weekend at the farmers market and I must say it was a success! A lot of work! (More then I was expecting) We had tons of fun and got to meet some pretty neat people. I also learned a lot. Things like make sure you bring sunscreen, even if it’s cold in the morning. You will start off the day feeling pretty good, maybe a little warm. By noon you’re full on sweaty and then by the end of the day you are sun burnt. Lesson learned.  Regardless of the hot weather we sold a bunch of stuff, met an old man that was a way better sales man than any of us. It was fun, which is good because we signed up for the next couple months to have a booth. So, if you live in Utah County and are bored on Saturday between 9:00 and 2:00, come say HEY and check out the Provo Farmer’s Market.

As always check out our Etsy store for new products. Leave us some comments!! We always love any feedback we can get.

Music Monday Goes Reggae

Its MUSIC MONDAY!!! For those of you who did not read my last post, I have taken it upon myself to make Mondays great.. well at least better than your average back to work again monday. How do I plan on doing that you ask, well  by giving you some new (hopefully to you) music to dance to all day long.

This Monday we are going Reggae! It is my personal favorite, and hopefully I can give you non reggae listeners some music to change you into Reggae lovers (and by reggae i mean stuff other than Bob Marley) So last week a couple of us Brightside girlies went to a super great Reggae concert, it was Rebelution (Zoeis number one favorite band) opening for Slightly Stoopid (One of Zoeis favorites, but not in the top 5). They put on a great show and it inspired me to blog about reggae. So Rebelution is my favorite band, but today im focusing on my 2nd favorite band, Tribal Seeds.

So what happens when your number one and number two favorite bands do a collab project together, well pure awesomeness is what happens. I like to think it is very rare, and that I am one of the rare luckys that this very thing has happened to. Tribal Seeds (which we established is my 2nd fav band) and Rebelution (my most favoritest band) actually did a song together, and it was like I said pure awesomeness. There isnt really a whole lot more I can say about it, I think music is one of those things you have to listen to and decipher for yourself whether you think its awesome or junk. So im going to wrap it up now (or rap it up, music pun haha) and leave you with a link (image below) so you can get a taste of this amazing reggae song I adore so much. So click on the link, listen to the song "Soundwaves" if you like it, comment and let me know, then listen to the rest of the stuff they have playing on their site, and also check out Rebelution. Both great bands (obviously, I wouldnt make bad bands my top 2!) Hope you enjoy! Dont forget, click the pic below!!

Click me for awesome music! **Remeber Soundwaves is the collab song, but also "Ill Return Again" is one of my favs!

Oh yeah and BTW, don't you think they should have asked me to design their EP album art, I think I could have done a better/cooler job!!

Its Wednesday!

Its Wednesday...well the end of it at least! Just thought I would share a project that I've been working on. I'm always working on new projects and love crafty things. Although I hardly ever finish any of the projects that I start. Any ways, I've been working on making some STICKERS! I am truly in love with my sticker maker, if you don't have one you should get one. I also love vinyl records. So...I made some record stickers! They are really easy to make and look pretty amazing. (not to brag or anything)

FIRST: Cut out some black circles. ( I used a circle cutter, not necessary but makes it way easier)

SECOND: Add a little white circle in the center like the label for the record. (I used mailing labels and cut them up, just so that they were already sticky and I didn't have fool around with the glue.)

THIRD: Poke a little hole in the center. (I used a itty bitty hole puncher, but you could use a needle or even just use a marker and make a little pretend hole.)

FOURTH: Make it look pretty! I wrote a mini track listing and band name on the white label to make it look fancy. Then took a white pencil and made little lines like the texture on a record.

FIFTH: Put it in the STICKER MAKER!

TA-DA! Nifty new stickers! I personally love the way they turned out. I'm going to post a mini-pack of these on our Etsy, well...when I stop being lazy and get around to it. ALSO...we love comments! But no one ever leaves comments. :( So.....Leave us a comment and get a FREE STICKER! No guarantees that it will be a record sticker, but probably something I've shoved through my sticker maker. But lovely none the less. So leave us a comment and include your e-mail address and I'll send you some itty bitty love in sticker form.

Music Monday: Desert Noises Kickstarter

Hey-ooo!! Zoei here and I am super excited to introduce you to my new friend, his name is Music Monday (name is still in progress. I think.) I am going to make Monday worth waking up for now by blogging about something music related (yeah!!) Im super stoked, I find a ton of great music every day, and now this will help me share all of that awesome with you! So here it goes for Music Monday (again, not sure about name) blog numero uno!!

Otay so I absolutely love being from Provo, why you ask, well there are so many reasons, but by far my number one reason would have to be all the awesome local music we have. A lot of people dont realize just how many great bands come from Provo, I would love to name a few but for today I am writing about only one. I have loved this band for a while now, so this blog is for Desert Noises.

Desert Noises = Zoeis fav band. Kickstarter = Zoeis favorite website. So Desert Noises+Kickstarter = Zoei just danced her pants right off. If you read our blog often then i am sure you are sick of me blogging about kickstarter.com. I am obsessed. (Remi keeps telling me it could be worse so not to worry) But its just so great, and it feels good to donate to bands that need extra moneys! For those who have no idea what a kickstarter is please refer to my past blog which i believe is conviently calledKick Starter.Com And then come back and continue --->HERE<----- (saved your spot for you! You're welcome.) Now that you know what kickstarter is I would absolutly love you if you went and checked out Desert Noises kickstarter here---->tDesert Noises Kickstarter page. They are a great band, and are definitely deserving of your hard earned cash, and they are offering super great incentives, so you dont just donate and get nothing, you get great music and you get to help a great band! So I realize that I always ramble on and on so im going to keep it short. Help Desert Noises get funded. Know that I love you even more than I did before. Get great music/nifty gifties. Get to know a new great band you didn't know of before. Help spread the Desert Noises word around to people who like awesome things.

Desert Noises+kickstarter+our help = More great music for our lovely ears!

Enjoy.

Here comes the sun, and I say it’s alright.

I probably blog about other people’s blogs way too much. But I just love them sooo much! There’s so many insanely creative people out there it boggles my mind some times.  But here are some blogs that are just way too cool not to mention.

From the Top of Willamette Mountain.  The blog of one of my favorite singer songwriters, Joshua James. I love this blog because it’s not just about his music and performing. It’s about life, good food and good company. He is an amazing writer. Reading his blog is like reading a really funny and intelligent chapter from a really good book. Just ask Zoei, I bug her all the time to read it and now I’m going to bug you to read it too.
Here comes the sun. One of my new favorites added to the long list of things I read regularly. My favorite part about this blog is the pictures. Honestly I only read it half the time, mostly I just look at the neat pictures. The girl is just adorable and her hats are amazing!

Also...I learned how to make pictures go to different links, that’s why it seems like I have random pictures on this post. Sooo..if you're extra bored, clickety click on the pictures.

Hello Wednesday!

Oh Wednesday. You’re so sneaky. Time is going by way too fast, but I’ve found that it usually does in the summer. So I’ve been working hard these days. Well, not too hard but I do think that I have earned myself at least some bragging rights. Here are some projects I’ve been working oh so hard on.

1)      Making some magnets! I’m so in love with my magnet board. Everyone knows that my magnet board is filled to DA MAX! So it only feels appropriate that I would make some magnets myself. A while ago I bought some cool vintage button magnets. So I thought I would give it ago and make some myself. After searching I found some cool vintage buttons and game pieces. I always see cool vintage things that I really want but don’t really have a purpose for. So when I saw these really cool bingo pieces I had to have them and make them into some spiffy magnets!

2) I’ve also been making some little pins. I’ve always like the way brooches looked, but never really know what to wear them with. So I made my own mini version of a brooch. It’s more like a pin. Any who…its super simple. Just a little red heart. I think they are perfect to give to people so they can wear them around and be reminded how much they are loved. You can put them anywhere too, on your bag, shirt, dress or sweater. You can even wear it on your sleeve! (he he)

BONUS!---- Blossom Dearie, oh how I do love you.

Beet Cake and Angus Stone.

I have been obsessing over this blog all week! Just ask Zoei, I haven't stopped talking about how much I want to make beet cupcakes! I'm always reading new blogs, mostly to cure my boredom and feed into any creative part of me there is. I'm always jealous of people that are more creative then me, so I easily become obsessed. But take a moment and check out this video! Its amazing. I wish all my dreams were like this, especially in those colors! Everything from the music to the colors and the font used makes my heat melt. If your bored check out there blog TIGER IN A JAR, its kinda amazing also.

beet cake from tiger in a jar on Vimeo.

The only thing I want is to eat a awesome beet cake and hang out with these guys! Angus you're so cool..
Watch this video and don't be lazy watch the whole thing. (Feel free to randomly dance when you feel appropriate) Am I the only one that sees the amazing little elephant on his guitar? I seriously need to get one of those, a mini elephant that is..not a guitar.

Cupcakes and Sunshine!

Nothing says summer like cupcakes and a healthy dose of sunshine! A very successful July 4th weekend! Although I’m not that patriotic, I did thoroughly enjoy myself this Independence Day. I mean you can’t go wrong with a friendly game of cupcake wars. I learned a lot of things from cupcake wars….

1) Your sisters will trash talk at every chance they get and Zoei is surprisingly good at trash talking. Something I defiantly need to work on.

2) It is possible to eat too many cupcakes.

3) A lot of people don’t like coconut. (Shocking I know)

4) People love cupcakes, no matter what the flavor. The last cupcake they ate is always going to be there favorite.

5) Combining 2 recipes flavors usually work out really good. Example: Zoei’s banana mocha chai cupcakes! Originally 2 recipes tossed together to create awesomeness!

Too many good cupcakes to have a winner. Although I do like to think that my own coconut cupcakes were the best, but that just my opinion. If you love coconut as much as me HERE is the recipe to make your own coco-nutty cupcakes! A secret that I stole from a coconut cake recipe I have is, when you pull them out of the oven while there still hot poke some holes in them and pour in a mixture of sweetened condensed milk and cream of coconut. It makes them kinda messy and gooey but super yummy!

For sure one of my favorites! A banana cupcake with a mocha and chai tea filling. Sooo yummy! You can’t go wrong with banana! I think Zoei defiantly gets extra points for creativity.

Key lime cupcakes made by Uhi! One of the yummiest cupcakes ever! This one defiantly wins cutest decoration. Disguised as corn but tastes like limes!

The strawberry cupcake that Hoku made was soooo yummy! It’s filled strawberries which is the best surprise ever when you chomp into a cupcake!
