Yes- Like I previously stated in my last post, I really want to start doing music monday posts again. After talking music with my cousin Matt AKA The Circus Dweller, I realized I had abandoned our blog, and had left it all up to Remi. Well I am back and ready to blog.. Mostly about the tunes I have been listening to and getting into for the past little while.

Remi gave me the idea to blog about my "Guilty Pleasure" songs. Pretty much songs that you love, and get really into, but you don't play them in your car when others are with you, mostly because if they knew you know all the lyrics to these songs you would be mortified. So I have compiled a small list of songs that I consider my Guilty Pleasure songs- Songs I dance my pants off to when no one is around.

I feel these songs do need an explanation so here it goes:

1. Martyr- Depeche Mode
Were gonna start off with a song, that is an absolute favorite of mine. Its not that I feel guilty listening to it. Its the amount I listen to it. I work 8 hours a day, during those 8 hours I have time to listen to some tunes while working. I don't so much listen to tunes, as much as tune. This song. End. I just can't get enough..He he (if you get that, you are awesome)

2. The Words Best Friend become redefined- By Chiodos.
So I LOVED this song amongst a lot of screamo songs when I was in High School. I grew out of a lot of it, but for some reason I still love this song.. And when I am driving alone, I turn the stereo up and practice my screaming. Seems crazy I know.. That's why its a guilty pleasure.

3. Apology- By SafetySuit
I have yet to meet someone else who likes this song. I never admit to them, that I don't just like this song. I really do love this song. There isn't really anything about it that would generally be appealing to me. I don't like really poppy sounding songs, I like unique voices- this is far from. And I'm not crazy about that generic band sound. Why I love this song so much- No idea. But it has made this list!

4. Jumper- By Third Eye Blind
Again, this is one of those songs that made it because of the amount of love I have for it. Everyone loves this song. Just not as much as me (will accept any challenge based upon this fact) Its so 90's, what's not to love?! Wait a minute. hahaha... This song is just one of those I always manage to slip into any mix I am making, because then I have an excuse to listen to it over and over.

5. Broken Down- By Kevin Hammond
Sappy love song- Check. Uses voice to "impress" us- Check. Have a generic guitar riff ripped off of Jason Mraz- Check. Why on earth would I love this song so much? Everything about it screams NOOOOO don't listen to me, I offer nothing. Yet, I bought it on iTunes for $1.06. I know he is trying waaayy too hard. But I love it. Guilty.

6. I Wanna Love You- The Maine (Akon cover)
Alright so the last one to make the list is my biggest Guilty Pleasure song.. I mean right off, its an Akon cover. That right there should be your first sign, then a "punk" band (One of those warped tour bands with attractive guys with long bangs covering it) doing it? Seems horrible right, yeah pretty sure most would say that it is. The song is about strippers. Sorry, falling in love with a stripper. Which is SOO much worse! But I for some reason just love this song and love dancing like a fool (without a pole for the record) to it.

Alright, So these were my Guilty Pleasure songs. Remi will post hers soon as well. Then you can compare, contrast, and tease us. I would love to get any one else's guilty pleasure playlist as well!
It has been about a year and a half since my last blog post. Life did that crazy thing where it gets ahead of you, and you stop or change everything you are so used to doing. Sometimes its good. Sometimes its bad. In my case it was good. My life over the past year and half is mostly as follows:

I met this boy:

And fell in love with him.

I call him Dirk.

We got this little booger:

Went on the biggest adventure of their lives and moved across the world to the Phillipines. I miss them like crazy every day. (Can you believe they are scuba diving?!)

I moved into this house:

With Remi, Dirk, and Shu Tzi..In a brand new town (growin up!)

And now I work at the same place, doing pretty much the same thing. Just for 8 hours a day. (See I really am growing up) Our house (as seen above) has a ton of room- so we will be able to start doing more printing and designing, and all the shtuff I love doing!

The last year has been full of adventures, which I am sure I will some day get around to telling the world about. As for now, Im looking for new tunes to blog about when I'm not playing with Shu Tzi or hanging out with the Dirk. I have some tunes just waiting for me to blog about, so I will get on that!!
After the first two seconds of listening to them I realized that A) I needed to learn how to play this song on the ukulele and B) I need to hear more from these two lovelies. I discovered that this band was called WILD CHILD. After some googleing I found THIS and taught myself how to play pillow talk and fell in love with the heart wrenching duet. (Although, yes it is a duet so when I sing and play it sounds kinda off, cause its supposed to be a duet, but oh well its still fun to play!) As far as I could tell they only have one album out. So I've made you a lil'playlist that is really just my favorites of theres. After tracking though there stuff they started to remind me more and more of Charity Children Berlin, but more sophisticated. Which can be a bad thing, but in this case I love that they remind me of a band that I like immensely. I'm loving this ladies voice. Its sounds so effortlessly unique and delightful. Her voice is superb in the song Bridges Burning. Over all I like these guys singer songwriter, folky feel. They have a very complete sound that is just fun. But upon second listen they have kinda sad, deep lyrics. These kinda sneaky bands are my favorite! Ones that can write a intense meaningful song, but make you feel good and ok about it.

ALSO, I found this video they made to promote there tour with SHAKY GRAVES! I'd probably scream if I got to go see them together! These guys just seem like they are having a hell of a time. I bet they put on a killer show!
I came across Good Old War! Two different songs were on two different playlists and I fell in love with both of them! So I figured I needed to listen to them more. I automatically was in love with there folky, alternative country sound. PLUS their songs have some of the most adorable, heart felt lyrics I've ever heard. I love his sweet, nasally voice! The way they layer their voices is really interesting. Its awesome how simple there songs are and they've got some nifty little riffs though out their songs. I can't believe that it took me this long to discover theses guys!
Which isn't a bad thing. Zoei and myself first started this blog when we started our own lil' screen printing business. Unfortunately last fall we had to close up out lil shop and focus on life a little bit. We love LOVE screen printing and theres no doubt that we will start it up again soon. But until then I've been neglecting this blog quite a bit. Mostly because I have my own personal BLOG, that I've been working hard at keeping updated. Its also hard to blog about screen printing and our art adventures when we really aren't having any.

So its half way though the year and so far the Brightside blog has become my place to share music with all of you. Which I personally love! I've always wanted a music blog, but never really knew how to go about it. I've been pretty flaky and only blogging when I find something that I really just want to share with the readers of the interweb. But I think that's how it should be. So no more music just on Mondays, now its music everyday...err...when I find something worth sharing!

I'm not sure how many readers we actually have on this blog, but if you happen to stumble upon it then I hope you find a band off of this blog that you really love. Or at the very least find a bit interesting.

Keep on listening! Don't fret we'll be back sinking our hands into some inky goodness in no time!
I just got home from an amazing lil' show in good ol' Provo. We had the pleasure to listen to the Utah native, Isaac Russell. I'm sure I've rambled on about him plenty of times and it seems like all the ladies around here can't get enough of him. I don't blame them, he is the bee's knees. But he is on his way to releasing a new album any day now, so seeing him live means a lot of new songs! Which I always enjoy because I love following artist and seeing what they can come up with next! Anyways, I really wanted to share the two latest songs of the young Mr. Isaac Russell. Who, by the way, never fails to disappoint and put on a good show! Despite the heat/sweat/smelly people I had a fantastical evening.
Its really cause nothing has captured my attention fully as of late. I think I might be going though another music shift where I listen to everything and anything and nothing seems to satisfy the void. But not today!

On this windy sunday I'm completely wrapped up in the musical-ness of A.A. Bondy. I first heard of him when we were at a local show and they fellow performing was ranting on about this artist and was like...go look him up, its good stuff. My thought process was, I like this guys music I bet I like the music that he likes. Seems logical right? At first listen I'll be honest with you, I wasn't blown away. It seemed kinda sappy and sad. (Rainy day kinda tunes) I didn't listen too much and just passed it off until the song How Will You Meet Your End popped up on my spotify one weekend. I was instantly wrapped up in the rhythmic loveliness and that alarming screeching guitar. So I figured I need to give this one another listen. After listening (this time with open ears) I complied this little playlist. I love his little rock folk guitar riffs and sweetly haunting voice. All of this wrapped together in poetic thoughtful lyrics that'll keep you guessing what they actually mean. I'd love to see this guy live, I bet hes loads of fun doused in cuteness. I still have to look up more about him and his albums. But for now I'll just swoon over this playlist.

Phew! Enough ranting. Listen listen! What do you think?

Hope you all have a good week!

On this fine March Monday I'm listening to Tinpan Orange. I first heard these guys after listening to a interview with Cat Empire. The lead singer to Tinpan Orange is married to Harry Angus of Cat Empire. The first song of theirs I heard was Lonely People. From the start I knew this was going to be a band that I obsessed over. This song alone is haunting and beautiful. Starts out slow and builds into this overwhelming amount of relatable emotion. After looking up more of their songs I found that most of them are quite happy and upbeat lil'tunes. The lead vocals are raspy, elegant and unique enough for me to keep listening. Their songs are all layered nicely. Which makes it fun to listen to over and over, trying to find something new each time. In the end I'm quite fond of this Aussie group and just wish it was easier (and cheaper) to get my paws on some of their albums! Yet another reason I can add to my "reasons to runway to Australia" list.
Today I'm listening to We Were Evergreen! I'm super excited to share this band with you today! I'm a recent fan of these lovelies. I didn't discover them until flipping through some take-away shows on youtube. After obsessing over there videos for a little bit I had to look up more. I automatically fell in love with the song Penguins and Moonboots. You all know how much of a sucker I am for a good ukulele! These guys know how to take simple idea and make it into something complex that wraps you up in loving arms. Its fun, poppy and slightly electronic. These fellas know how to layer instruments so beautifully. They are quite unique in the way that they are French, but don't sing in French. Which I'm kinda glad, because learning to speak/understand french I've always failed! But I'm sure I'd still have a appreciation for there tunes. Needless to say I'm looking forward to hearing more from these guys!
It's Monday yet again and it seems like we are on our way into the short month of February! The awkward Valentines holiday is quickly approaching so it only felt necessary to do a themed playlist this Monday. Now I'm not a huge fan of Valentines. It always causes more issues then anything else. I could ramble on about how silly I think it is but I'll save you the lecture. As I sat down to make a playlist I couldn't decide what kinda love songs I wanted to compile. I mean, it's obvious that a valentines playlist would be love themed, right? I couldn't decide it I wanted mushy love songs or anti-love songs. So I decided to do both. Well, I didn't decide it just kinda happend.

Playlist number one: Happy songs that are kinda about love!

I wanted to do an upbeat dance you pants off kinda love playlist. I think I was fairly successful. Hopefully these songs are unique and not on your average Valentines playlist.
BUT on the up note I've been keeping consistant with a peachy keen day blog! Which I'm very proud of. I'm torn because I like the personality of my new blog but I've lots of time spent with bright side blog as well. The only thing that keeps me coming back is Music Monday. Mostly because I make the playlists anyways and it encourages me to be constantly looking for new music to share. Maybe one day I'll change Music monday over on to my other blog or maybe Zoei will take it over. But until then seems like this blog is just going to fill up with only monday posts.Which isn't a completely bad thing! Maybe we should just drop the monday and just make it music. Hm, so many options!

Phew! Anyways lets get to some tunes! This week I'm listening to Alt-J. I'll be honest when I first heard these guys I was unimpressed to say the least. It wasn't until the Triple J hottest 100 that I found the song Breezeblocks (coming in at #3). From the first 10 seconds of this song I was automatically hooked. Like I always tend to do I had to look up more from them. I wasn't completly blown away from the songs that they had to offer. But as I was clicking and meandering through differnt songs of theres, I came to the conclusion that I needed to listen to the whole album start to finish in the order that they intended it to be listened too. After doing so, it seemed like it all made more sense. The interludes are perfectly place they have a good balance of electronic and rock with a hinge of singer song writer-ness. This guys voice is so unique and holds on to your attention the whole time. I'll admit some of there songs are a wafty miss, but over all its pretty good. Obviously I felt like it was worthy of a Monday.

I hope monday is good to all you lovelies!
This year is getting kicked off with an interesting start! Not necessarily a bad start, but an interesting one to say the least. I am sorry to say that I haven't been posting on here as much as I would like too. Mostly because I've been working on my other lil' blog project A Peachy Keen Day. Which is going swimmingly!

Anyways, its Monday and I'm here to share with you Typhoon. I've to thank this new discovery to the songza app on my phone. It's my favorite to listen to as I'm getting dressed in the morning and the other morning a lovely song called Claws pt. 2 popped up and I needed to look more of these guys up. When I first started listening it all felt really local. I mean that in a sense that I feel like I can go and see a similar band play at a little venue in Utah. That kind of haunting lyrics and mediocre vocals that are so adorable you want to listen more. But then upon a second listen and compiling a little playlist and shuffling though there discography. I found that they are way most complex then I first thought. They build a song very nicely and have this complex swelling of emotion that gets translated though a lot of there songs. For me these are heartfelt, mind swallowing tunes that make me want to hug someone and let myself be taken by the poetic sincerity of it all. Ok, ok I'm done rambling!

Enough talking, more listening. Gobble it up my lovelies, you'll thank me later.
now realizing this and if I had noticed that earlier I probably would have made
a different playlist, but oh well! Today I give you a playlist of sad songs.
Well, not sad songs but songs that make me overly emotional. Do you have songs
like that? Where for some reason even on the best of days, that song comes on
and you’re just a mess? Maybe it’s just the girly part of me or the part of me
that gets way too invested in music. Even though this playlist is a bit
emotional it’s got some great gems on it. All these artists are ones that I
love. It seems like it’s a bit of a mish mash, but I think they fit oddly well
together.

Phew, this year has been an interesting one for Zoei and myself. It's safe to say that we learned A LOT about our relationship and the amazingness that comes along with being sisters and twins! I'm happy to say that we have survived the year and are ready to move on to better and more fantastical things! We just finished up cleaning and moving out of our lil studio. But don't fret we still plan on making some lovely tees, especially in the summer of 2013! For now though we have packed up our stuff and am taking a bit to sort out and figure out the next step. Both of us are excited to start new with a new space and new fresh ideas! So keep your eyes peeled for some newness that is in the works.

The biggest thing I want to mention is all the amazing support that we continually receive from friends and family. There is no doubt that we couldn't have accomplished anything with out all of you! When you jump into a project like this its so amazing to see how positive and supportive people can be! One of the greatest things I've learned through out all of this is that the people I've surrounded myself with are truly beautiful, amazing people! I just feel so incredibly lucky to live the life that I do!

So THANK YOU all my lovlies! I hope you have an amazing new year!
But I wanted to share my two cents and also share some of my favorites of 2012. Now, don't worry I'll keep it short and won't ramble one too much. Man, there were so many good albums released this year. Probably too many that I can't even remember them all! But I think that it is a unanimous decisions the The Lumineers have taken the top spot in the bright-side girls hearts. That album has become a must have staple in our car. But don't forget about The Avett Brothers, Norah Jones (long time favorite of mine.), Bahamas, Joshua James, Matt and Kim, Alabama Shakes, Fiona Apple and Lisa Mitchell. Whoa, there are just too many. Not including all the amazing singles and eps that have been released! Needless to say it was an amazing year for music!

Zoei and I also got the chance to see a ton of great bands this year! Everything from Matt and Kim to the Avett Brothers we really got spoiled this fall! I think its fair to say that live music is the best. Old or new releases it all sounds amazing when you see it in a crowed place with strangers. We've already got tickets to see Augustana and Thao and the Get Down Stay Down early 2013, so I'm super stoked for the new year! So many awesome bands are making there way to good ol'utah!

Phew, so here is a mini playlist of my favorites of 2012. I couldn't find all the songs that I wanted to include. So click HERE to listen to an amazing Lisa Mitchell songs and click THERE to hear an awesome Joshua James song. I've also probably left TONS off of my lil list, but eh it is what it is!

Cheers to a great year in music!
It's that time of year! Time for family gatherings and awkward parties to attend. This year I'm going to attempt to be extra festive with fancy hair! I saw THIS post to do a chignon hairstyle. (yeah, I had to look that up, but doesn't it look pretty!) Seems pretty simple. I also found THIS video on how to do a zipper braid with a bun. Which I have tired a few times and am realizing that its gonna take some practice before I can get it down. And that this girly must have some really buff arms, cause man mine were aching after 2 seconds! I also want to tackle THESE finger wave curls. I wouldn't mind doing my hair like that everyday. Well, that is if I have the time and aren't feeling too lazy.

Go out and do some fancy hair for New Years Eve!
I can't believe Christmas is almost here! Where did the time go! It seemed like I was so ambitious at the beginning of the month, now I'm just trying to finish one project! On the bright side I have successfully sent out all my christmas cards and am done with the shopping! (Well almost there is always more stuff to buy!) So many things still that need to be done! I haven't even begun to start wrapping any of the gifts I bought. Zoei and I are doing personalized mugs for our family (which I found HERE!) and we haven't even started on those yet! Plus we plan on making some sweet treats also, because lets be realistic Christmas isn't Christmas with out plates full of unhealthy things! I think this year we're going to try to make peanut butter truffles, caramel shortbread cookies and almond roca! Thanks to Zoei's new found obsession with Pintrest, she's been finding all kinds of recipes. Who knows what will actually get done. Like I said we were a bit overly ambitious. But we're still going to give it a shot! Wish us luck!

I've also found some christmas tunes to enjoy whilst tackling the long to do list I've got in head of me! I love 8tracks, this is one of my favorite holiday playlists I've been listening too. Also, you can download a free christmas album from the lovlies at Velour!! I love this because its local, its free, it's live AND Isaac Russell singing sister winter. Need I say more.
In all fairness doesn't it seem like the holidays suck the time out of everything! Even the simplest things take FOREVER! Little things just like running to the store to get a pair of gloves. After battling to find ones you like, you get 5 other workers trying to get you to buy other crap that you really don't need. But its the holiday season so you don't want to be rude to anyone. Nobody wants to be that grumpy gus that pouts whenever they go out anywhere. So, I smile and wait in the extremely long line at the post office and accept it. It is what it is, Oh the holidays and the wonder of it ALL!
On a lighter note! I feel like I'm on the edge of getting my creative juices back! This week has been filled with sketches and getting stuff done! I don't want to say anything too soon so I don't jinx myself. But I have a good feeling about this coming year! I've also been doing Fat Mum Slim's Photo A Day! Its really fun and now that I've discovered instagram it makes it so much more enjoyable! Can you believe it's December already! Time is just going by crazy fast. On the bright side Christmas is a coming! It's official you can listen to Christmas music and NOT get dirty/ strange looks from people! By now you're probably thinking, YAY music monday has gone Christmas ..well you're wrong. Today I'm in love with SHOVELS AND ROPE! (Don't worry there are plenty of Mondays in December!) Shovels and Rope are two lovlies named Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst. They are quite the nifty duo if I do say so myself. I'm not quite sure how to describe there sound. For me personally it has way more of a country-ish sound then I normally go for. But they've got a few singer-song writer tunes as well as a bit of a rock-ish pop sound. You should probably just listen to the mini playlist i've complied for you and tell me what you think! Regardless of the label I try to put on there sound one thing is clear, these guys can write a fun/sappy tune. They've got songs laced with poetic/story telling lyrics and the occasional foot stopmin' hand clappin'. Which are all good things!

I've to warn you, Box Car is my favorite song of theirs and it will get stuck in your head. In a good way of course, until you can't help but sing it out loud. Which can sometimes be awkward, unless people around you know what song has possessed your mind at the moment. SO, if you like there tunes, you should share them so then you can sing them out loud and only seem semi crazy.

"If they ever come to ask about me, tell 'em that you knew me and you kinda liked me. I ain't afraid to go it on my own, you can make a run and make it all alone. You'll be alright."

Happy Monday!
I got something really spectacular in the mail the other day. I received some stickers from a project that I had supported on kick starter a little while ago.

We all know that I'm a sucker for illustrations and old photographs so its only natural that I was smitten for LAUREN SIMKIN BERKE. I really like his style of illustrations. They appear simple at first but are actually really complex and full of textures. Which you can see HERE! in some of his sketches. I like that he uses old photographs to work from. Mostly because I love the mystery that old photos of strangers hold. To take something as simple as a photograph and transform it into something beautiful and unique, that takes a pretty special person. I really enjoy this blurb he says about his work.

"I collect old photographs from flea markets, antique and junk shops and draw from them. They are often family snapshots from the 1920s through the 1970's or studio portraits from the last quarter of the 19th century. I find it strange these document are for sale as part of a consumer market place instead of being in albums on book shelve in the homes of the families of those in the photos. I find myself at the intersection between fascinated voyeurism and determination fo know these documents as well as humanly possible in order to give them a new, longer life."

Needless to say I'm going to be snatching up some of THESE cards and probably end up buying his new book as well. Check out his stuff, its dripping with awesomeness!

I hope all of you lovelies enjoyed your holiday weekend! I know I sure did. It was full of laziness and new tunes! One of my newest favorites is Various Cruelties. Ok, now I must admit that I first heard this band on a commercial. I can't remember what it was advertising but the song was If It Wasn't For You. It was just so catchy and lovely and I fell in love with the guys higher voice and the kinda sweet rock and roll-ish pop sound they had. Once I listened to the full song the lyrics were so sweet. (which was interesting for having such a harsh sounding name) But after falling in love with that song I needed to find more of there tunes. Needless to say it only took me once tracking through there album to realize its a must have. I mean, sure there are a couple of tracks that are lacking, but as a whole its very nicely done. I feel I've yet to discover the awesomeness that is Various Cruelties, but a bit more poking around on the interweb I'm sure I'll just find more reasons to love these guys.

"If it wasn't for you, I don't know what I'd do. I've got nothing to prove, I've got nothing to lose."

Hope you enjoy this little playlist! Good luck on this fine Monday! (Mondays after a holiday are always the roughest, hang in there cookie!)
I know I've been ranting on about my discomfort with black friday. But alas we wouldn't be a very good lil' shop if we didn't partake in the festivities. So we're having a sale! We are offering 20% off of everything in our SHOP. The sale lasts from the 23rd to the 27th. It successfully encompasses all the black friday-ness and cyber monday-ness. See, I'm not a complete bum when it comes to the madness!

I must admit I had a wonderful Thanksgiving with my beautiful family. I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend my Thanksgiving. Now I'm just going to be lazy for the rest of week and soak in whats left of November until the Christmas madness begins.

I can't believe how fast time is going by! Its already Thanksgiving tomorrow! Thanksgiving is always a bit of an odd holiday. I mean, it is a lovely holiday and all. I love the idea of eating together as a family and it sort of kicks off the holiday season. But when you really look into the history of Thanksgiving, it's strange holiday. Although, I'm not complaining, I love eating so a day based around eating is totally up my ally. Plus I get to spend the day with the people I love most!

What's the deal with black friday? I mean everyone just spent a lovely day with there families now its time to go and tackle each other for cheap stuff? It's kinda crazy how agressive people get. I personally will just shop online for the good deals. Although I could probably get better deals after waiting in line in the cold at the crack of dawn. Mostly likely I'll find myself in the situation anyways if my sisters drag me out with them. I suppose it is kind of fun to see all the crazies and snag a couple of neat things for oober cheap.

But if you're one of those crazy agressive black friday-ers, just remember to be nice. No need to yell at people or plow people down with shopping carts. It is the holiday season after all, so be kind to one another!

Hey! It's Monday..again! This Monday I'm in love with Local Natives! I've been a fan of them since there first album release Gorilla Mannor. They have such a fun and complex indie sound that I just love. They've got poetic, witty lyrics that make there songs easy to listen too over and over again. Which is always a plus! They just released a single called, Breakers. I can't wait for them to release a whole album which is expected to come out early 2013. The song Breakers has there same catchy guitar riffs, but more sophisticated. They have stuck to there same layered goodness and complex building percussion section. I'm excited to see where there new album goes. I've a feeling its going to be similar but better. If that makes any sense. Anyways, I love there sound. Here's a little playlist of my favorite songs of theres. Hope theres at least one song on here that you love!

Well, finally finishing up a cold lazy week. I know what you're thinking by now, when doesn't Remi have a lazy week! I think I'm finally getting out of my lazy funk. Just seems like so many grown-up decisions need to be made and my indecisiveness isn't helping me with any of them. The cold weather isn't helping because all I really want to do is snuggle up in bed. It's 90% harder to get out of bed when its cold! But today I made a giant to do list and I feel like I might be getting back on track to getting stuff done. I'm feeling very creative also, which is a good thing! I sat down today and worked on some sketches and wrote out some ideas. So I'm slowly getting out of this rut. But for now I'm going to lay in bed and catch up on Modern Family episodes and obsessively listen to Lisa Mitchell's newest album.
