World Water Day

Its World Water Day!! (yay!) So Happy World Water Day to you my friend! Most of you don't know this, but I, Zoei am very much in love with the world, and the environment. So I thought I would take just a minute and blog about some of the foundations that I contribute to each and every year.

First up is Surfrider Foundation. I have been donating to Surfrider for about 5 years now. I absolutly love what they do, what they have done, and what they are currently doing. Over the years I have seen them accomplish a lot of great things (Save Trestles being one that was really important to me) They seriously do so many great things for the environment, the surf scene, and our oceans in general. Please take a minute and browse through their site, you won't be sorry you did!

Another one, thats technically under Surfrider, but you should look into as well is Rise Above Plastics. Its all about well, rising above plastics, and reducing our plastic usage, and finding reusable alternatives.

And one more of my favorites is Hurley's H2O project. If you haven't heard of it, check it out. I LOVE Hurley, so when they started the Hurley H2O project, I instantly fell in love. They also do some really great things. It is amazing how many people don't have access to clean water, and Hurley is changing that. So the more people I can get to be aware of them and what they are doing the better, and you should do the same.

So here are a few ways you can celebrate World Water Day! Hope you take some time and check out the links Ive posted on here, let me know what you think about all of this, and have a happy World Water Day!

Peace out Girl (and boy) scouts

Seems Sketchy

Just the other day I was digging through old files one my computer and found all these sketches. I'm sure I planned on doing something with them at one point or they were small piece of something bigger I was working on. Anyways, I thought I would share a few of my favorites. I sketch a lot, but 80% of them aren't very good, well at lest not share worthy good. If that makes sense? I guess you would call them doodles. I'm not sure. But I do want to encourage everyone and anyone to hold on to your sketches/doodles! I promise you in a couple years you'll find them and you'll thank me. It's like bumping into an old friend that knows way too much about you, but  you haven't seen them in forever. Or something like that, I don't know exactly what it is about it, just do it. Trust me.

I totally made Zoei a mini-book, called Monsters Are My Friends. I wonder where that ever ended up. Also found my scans from my first (and only) Zine, Unfold. And some sketches from my sketchbook for the sketchbook project

Music Monday: The Vibrant Sound

Oh hello there Music Monday! Its me Zoei, ready to blog about my current fav band. I love local bands (as most of you readers know) so I think we should go local again this week! So who are we talking about today you ask? Why one of my all time/current favorites: The Vibrant Sound.
I'm not quite sure where I should start, or what I should say other than, if you have not heard of The Vibrant Sound then you are definitely missing out my friend! I have been listening to The Vibrant Sound for a while, and I absolutely love their stuff. Its got a fun hip hop feel as well as a fun Indie sound. And did I mention they're from Provo?? I mean what's not to love? Hip hop meets indie from Provo? Sounds great right? Well its way better than great!
I will let you be the judge, and let you decide if you love them as much as I do. Love it, hate it, kinda like, kinda really love it? Let me know, I love hearing what you guys think! Check em out Here and over here as well as the playlist below!
On a side note: Remi re-did our banner on our blog? Don't you love it?? Cause I sure do!
Otay, I'm out, have a neat-o week!

Guess what..It's Friday.

It's Friday! In case you didn't know. Unless you're in Australia then I believe it might already be Saturday. Would that be considered time travel? Anyways, I've been working on some different fonts, this one is my latest favorite. Have a fantastic Friday, don't forget if you are in the Provo area DESERT NOISES is playing tonight, I'm sure you'll find us hanging around somewhere.

Photo-A-Day Challenge MARCH!

That's right people, we are at it again. Thanks to FAT MUM SLIM and her lovely ideas we are doing the photo-a-day challenge March. I kinda got lazy during February, but it was a short month anyways so it didn't really count. This time Gold Canary is going to be helping me out a bit, taking half the list. this project is really a ton of fun. Even if you don't post them, just challenging yourself everyday to be creative is very rewarding. It's so easy too! And it's really fun to see other people interpretations for each day! Any who...here it goes.

Day one: UP! There are so many creative things I could have done with this one, but you know not a bad picture.

Day two: Fruit. Did you know that adding lemons to your water can increase your metabolism. Its so tasty too!

Day three: My neighborhood. If  you don't live in Utah, then you are seriously missing out on some fantastic winter mountains. This is what our street looks like!

Day four: Bedside. This is in fact what Zoei wakes up next too every morning. You'd think she'd be more pleasant in the mornings.
Day five: Smile! The best smile in the world, CHAPSTICK! Although she might try to eat your face off.

Day six: 5pm. Every week day you can always find me and Zoei at work. We have way too much fun for it being work.

Day seven: Something I wore. New shoes! These are the most comfy shoes my giant feet and every pranced around in. Not sure how long the flimsy material will last, but I don't really care.

Day eight: Window. This is the window to one of the happiest places on earth. Well for me at least, the most creative place for me, my bedroom.

Phew, didn't realize how long this post would actually be. Well, at least I'm all caught up!

Let's be friends: James Jean

James Jean, you are so cool. If you don't know his work, you are seriously missing out. There are lots of illustrators that I admire but man, I think I could learn so much just from having coffee with the guy. His work is dreamy, complicated and oh so fantastic. So it's only reasonable to want to be friends with him. One day when my dreams come true I'll be able to buy all his books and visit one of his exhibitions. I'm sure he could give me some good advice and all that stuff, but he just seems like a fun guy to hang out with. After reading a few interviews i'm sure you'll like him just as much as I do. Go look up his work HERE or add him on FACEBOOK or read THIS interview on one of my favorite blogs. I'm sure you'll agree, we should be friends.

"I've been drawing since I can remember. Motivation came from the praise I received my first grade teacher as she paraded me across the hall to second grade to show off a drawing of an airplane I did in crayon. I thought I was so clever about the perspective of the wing on the other side of the plane.*sigh* I think my grasp of perspective is about the same now as it was it then, thanks to art school. Now, motivation comes from something much more primal--hunger. I was going to say girls, but being an illustrator, I find that I think about food now more than girls."

Music Monday: Desert Noises

Music Monday already?!? YAY!! I love me some Music Monday, so lets get to it! Lets talk about my favorite local band today: Desert Noises...
So before I begin, I must say that I have in fact blogged about Desert Noises before because they had a kickstarter project going, but I never actually blogged about them and did the whole playlist thing. So this is my redemption time and give them a real blog shout out (isn't redemption sweet?) So what about Desert Noises is so special they get 2 posts you ask? Well if you are asking such a silly question you obviously have not heard their music before. They currently have 2 albums out, and both are spectacular! What does make an album spectacular? Well its quite easy. It must meet the following requirements:

1. You must be able to listen to the album any day, anywhere, any time and it is exactly what you wanted to listen to. Even if you didn't know you wanted to listen to it.
2. You must be able to turn this album on with ANYONE in the room and instantly here "Who are we listening to" (usually followed by a "I like it", or "Sounds like (insert one of their fav bands here)")
3. You must be able to pop it on at any moment, to any song and automatically your head starts bobbing to the beat of the song, followed up with a huge smile that you just cant seem to get rid of.

That is what makes a CD spectacular! Do you agree? Well that's what I think makes it at least, and I think Desert Noises have 2 spectacular cds. I love both of them so much, and I hope you love them as much as I do. And for those local weekly music Monday readers, they just happen to be playing a show in Provo at Velour this Friday, so if you aren't doing anything, and you fall in love after hearing the playlist I have compiled, cancel your hot date on Friday, and meet me at Velour!

Happy week

Puzzle Letter.

We all know how much I enjoy writing letters. Well a while ago I came across THIS lovely post from one of my favorite blogs OH HAPPY DAY! (BTW this is one of my all time favorite blogs, reading it makes you want to travel the world with your two cute little boys and throw some of the coolest/ prettiest parties.) Anyways, back on track I've been wanting to do this postcard idea for a long time. But I was running into a couple problems. 1) I'm terrible at remembering peoples birthdays. 2) I'm not punctual enough to get them all sent on time, I'm sure people would be getting postcards well after there birthday. 3) I don't know enough of the same mutual friends. They would end up with half a poster and I would feel like a loser not having many friends. SO, instead I've done my own spin on it. I drew THIS giant lovely poster. Then chopped it up, (which was hard to do I must admit.) Then wrote a letter on the back and tossed it into an envelope. Hopefully my pen pal will enjoy this puzzle letter as much as I do!

P.S. - My second attempt at making a GIF, must say it looks better then the first. But room for improvement for sure. Also, stole this quote from the amazing JOSHUA JAMES
