Photo-A-Day # 25-31

Hola amigos! See, I told you I would post the rest of my January photo-a-day photos! I can't believe how fast the month went by! Its just craziness how fast time flies when you're having fun! Bring it on February! Don't forget to play along for February Photo-a-Day!

25) Something I made. Well since me and Zoei are always making things this one was easy. But I recently love making these little notebooks out of scrap paper!

26)Color! This one was tricky, mostly because I think I was over thinking it. But one of my favorite color combinations is Black and White.

27) Lunch. Chai tea and snicker-doodle cookies made my LC and Zoei. Perfect lunch!

28) Light! My personal favorite light source, the SUN!

30) Nature. This one was pretty easy.

31) Me!...Again. Don't like pictures of myself. I really need to work on my fake smile.

(Don't tell anyone I'm missing a couple photos, that will be out little secret)

Photo-A-Day # 16-23

Phew, finally finishing up the month of January photo-a-day challenge! Ok, so maybe I'm behind on posting a little or maybe a LOT. But its catch up time now! So, here we go days 16-23. (Yes I realize that the month has just about ended, I'm going to post the rest eventually.) By the way Fat Mum Slim is also doing photo-a-day challenge for February! Hopefully you'll join! Its loads of fun, promise. Even if you get behind, still loads of fun.

Anyways, here we go!
16) Morning! Probably one of the things I hate most. I'm pretty sure it hates me too.

17) Water. We finally got snow in the valley here in Utah! Nothing is better then frozen water in white fluffy form. If only it wasn't so darn cold!

18) Something you bought. My most recent purchase off of Etsy a lovely sketch book made from an old book. Its so perfectly made, I love it. Snag your own HERE

19) Sweet! Nothing is sweeter then Asian candies! Yup, that's bubble gum, although it took me a while after eating to confirm that.

20) Someone you love. None other the my partner in crime ZOEI!

21) Reflection. This one was a bit tricky for me. I think I was thinking about it too much. But here we have my black bird twin reflex camera. I figured the mirrors inside counted enough as a reflection.

22) Your shoes. My favorite boots. Keep'in me toes warm in the winter!

23) Something old. This is a flyer from my dads band, Natty Bumppo. From way back when. Amazing isn't it! I just love it! I'll tell you more about that later.

Music Monday: Phil Ochs

Bonjour! It is Music Monday again! So lets get a bloggin about some neato music! Today I am blogging about Phil Ochs.

Now before you say anything, I realize its a little weird to blog about someone like Phil Ochs, its like that person that asks you, "Have you heard of Bob Dylan" Uhhh yeah, thanks I have actually. What do you say to those people?!? So I realize most people have heard of Phil Ochs, so if you have I hope you enjoy the playlist I have put together, and if you haven't you are in for a real treat!

I had heard the name before, but never really got into his music really, until I recently saw a biography on him. I fell in love with his music and his life story. He had one heck of a life, and it definitely comes through in his music. Again, if you have never heard of him, check out his stuff, and read up on him a little. He did a couple things with Bob Dylan, and was really active in the 60's and early 70's. Google him if you have a minute, there are a couple biographies out there of him, I highly recommend learning more about him. In the meantime, check out the play list below, and let me know what you think. Whether you like it or hate it- let me know. Keep in mind he was a "protest singer" so most of his songs are meant to have a deep specific meaning, and you definitely get that while listening to his stuff. Hope you enjoy!

Have a great week!

Let's be friends: Joshua James

Well hello there. So each week I've been writing about someone who I would love to be friends with. This week its JOSHUA JAMES. I'm pretty sure that I've blogged about him tons of times. I just can't help myself. First off if you don't know his music go HERE. It's amazing, trust me. Also if you live in Utah, he is always playing lots of shows if you like his recorded stuff you'll like him live a thousand times more. One thing I like about Mr. James is his BLOG. It is my all time favorite blog to read and I read an unhealthy amount of blogs. Overall he is just a good writer. I find myself dwelling on his words wanting to soak them up in my mind and digest the feeling they hold. OK, maybe that's a bit creepy, but it's just that good. He has his own record label and recording studios.  Which is just full of awesomeness and contains some the the most amazing artists in the area. On top of it all he has goats, not just that his wife makes goat milk SOAP. (The labels are super fantastic.) They are just so cool and seem like such down to earth people. But then again, I could be wrong. Regardless, we should still be friends.

"Today is slated for a busy one. And i am off. Into the air, into the world. Still breathing, still living, and to love i will try."  --Joshua-Fred

Until then- Mint~Tea

Music Monday: Jake Bugg

Well hello there! It be Music Monday, the day I get to express my love to my newest music fav. This week I am talking about Jake Bugg.

For starters, Jake Bugg, enough said right? How great of a name is that? Super great, if you weren't catching where I was going with that! Jake Bugg, love it!

Second, I absolutly love his voice, its got almost a Tallest Man on Earth sound, but not quite, just enough off to make it something you've never heard before. Its pretty fantastic, and hes like only 17, which is pretty amazing that he has a voice like that at such a young age. And he writes on damn good song, oh so catchy!
Here are a couple of my favorite songs, if you like him as much as I do, please go look more of his stuff up, you won't regret it! Get at him on the facebook, and tweet at him over on the twitter, and of course on the youtube.

Have a lovely week

Sketch Book Project

Ahoy mate! So, last week I did THIS post about the photo-a-day challenge and said that I would elaborate more about the SKETCH BOOK PROJECT. Basically its this project that these guys started and the idea is that they send you a sketch book, you fill it out and send it back. Then it becomes part of a sketch book library where anyone can go and flip though a book from the library. Such a great idea right?! The best part is you don't have to be an artist to participate because every sketchbook will be accepted not matter what. So no pesky art farts telling you its not good enough to be in a museum. The negative part is you do have to pay a small fee, but it totally makes sense to pay for all the materials and time that they put into it. Plus I love supporting people who have good ideas and are actually doing something about it. They have other nifty projects besides the sketchbook project so be sure to CHECK them out. Also see some pages from my sketchbook HERE.

Music Monday: The Old Grey Geese

Oh Music Monday, how I adore thee! Making each Monday happier one band at a time. On this lovely Monday we are going local! If you are a Music Monday reader you know that I LOVE local bands, and I love being from a place where we have so many great local lovelies! But today we are talking about just one local band that I just found out about. Today we are going local with:
 The Old Grey Geese.

So like I said, I just recently discovered this amazing band, we went to a show on Saturday and they were one of the openers, it was a great show, and yes you should be sad if you missed out. So since I just found out about them I don't really have too much to say about them, but I couldn't hold off blogging about them, cause I want EVERYONE to know about them, and I felt like it was my good deed of the month sharing such a great band, hell this will be my good deed of the year, cause I know you will all fall in love with their music!
 (You can thank me later!)

We have so many great local artists here in Utah! If you did not know that, then you are missing out my friend, and you really need to start getting into all the local music we have here, you can start by reading past music Monday posts! (The Archer's Apple, Parlor HawkDesert NoisesSpencer Glenn, just to name a few I have blogged about)

So I feel I have said enough, and hopefully you get the point: Utah/Provo has GREAT local bands, I am madly in love with The Old Grey Geese, I hope you love them as much as I do!

So lets get to the point of this whole post: The music! Go like them on the facebook, give em a listen on Sound Cloud, and fall in love.

Peace out girl/boy scouts--
Gold Canary
(Zoei, for those of you who didn't read my post on code names)

This is my fav song-- I can't stop listening to it!

Photo-A-Day # 11-15

I'm still doing the photo-a-day challenge. I'm sure you all thought I was giving up because I haven't posted any in a while. But that is sooo not the case! So here we go days 11 through 15.

Day 11: Where you sleep. This happens to be one of my favorite places. I seriously could sleep for days.

Day 12: Close-up. A close up picture of my sketch book for the sketchbook project. I'll  have to post more on that later.

Day 13: In your bag. I'm a classic bag lady and always carry around way too much junk with me.

Day 14: Something you're reading. I've been reading The Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm. A Christmas present from the fabulous Zoei. It seems like all these T.V shows are based around fairy tales lately, I was surprised how many I didn't know. But not anymore!

Day 15: Happiness. Nothing makes me happier then getting mail. If you didn't know that about me read THIS or THAT

Phew, I'm all caught up and still going strong!

Let's be friends: BĂ©atrice Martin

You know who I would love to be friends with, Beatrice Martin aka Coeur de Pirate. Shes just so cool. From her catchy songs to her awesome accent. Man, can this lady writes a killer song. I have no clue whats shes singing, but you know what. I don't care, it's awesome anyways. And yes I do sing along and pretend like I know what I'm saying. I really should learn some french, I feel like that might come in handy someday. But in the end its not the lyrics that get me (mostly because I can't understand them) its the way she can play the hell out of a piano and her amazing voice. If you don't know her check her out HERE or THERE. Then you'll see why I want to be friends with her. I bet shes so much fun too, we would ride bikes and go get matching tattoos. Ok, maybe not. But a girl can dream can't she.

Code Name Gold Canary

Recently I was thinking, how cool would it be to have a neato code name? Then I thought the only reason to have a code name would be if you have something like really really good as the code name. After thinking this thought, I searched long and hard for THE code name. I thought maybe a song reference, a surfing reference, maybe something I read in a book once. Then Remi introduced me to Cloud Control. Never heard of them, its okay I hadn't until Remi introduced them to me. Anyway, they have a song. A song that I am madly in love with. What is this song I speak of? Its lovely name is: Gold Canary. I thought it over for a while, then Remi and I were driving in the car and we had a little convo, where in I said "I think we need code names" Then I quickly added "I CALL GOLD CANARY" Just in case for some odd reason she was thinking the same thing. So thus came the code name Gold Canary.

So now you know where I got my code name, I have very few uses for such a code name, but signing off of my blog posts is a perfect time to use it, so from here on out I shall and will sign my posts Gold Canary. I feel like it fits me well! Listen to this lovely tune, I hope you like it as much as I do!

Enjoy--

Photo-A-Day #9 &10

Phew, I'm actually sticking with this photo a day thing! Amazing I know, I'm just having way too much fun! Photo a day challenge days NINE and TEN. Day nine is daily routine, so I just had to take a picture of my new lucky cat toof brush holder. Because brushing your teef is the most important part of your day. Skip that in the morning and you and everyone around you is going to have a bad day. Trust me, nothing is worse the trying to talk to some one and all you can think is, Man don't you have a tooth brush? So don't forget BRUSH YER TEEF! Day number ten is childhood. Nothing says childhood better then the house you grew up in. I still love the old home. I taught myself how to ride my bike in the driveway. Only took me a couple days and some scraped up legs. I'm loving this photo challenge! Its still the beginning of the month so its not too late!

Music Monday: Rebelution

It be Music Monday, and as promised I am back at it blogging each and every Monday about my current music fav. Since it’s been so long, lets jump right into it. This week talking my all-time fav band: Rebelution.

Now generally I pick bands/artists that I have recently discovered, but I thought I would focus on Rebelution for the following reasons:
1. They are my favorite band (pretty obvious reason)
2. I have not been able to listen to any other CD in my car for the past week or so
3. Their new album comes out tomorrow!! (Very stoked for this reason!)

That’s right, tomorrow they have a cd coming out. Before I go any further I must explain why I am way more excited for this album that any other release. Ready for the big reveal?? IT’S A TRIPLE DISC!! What, I know I could barely hold the excitement in myself! Not only is it three discs, but the discs go like this:
1st disc: Normal cd, just studio recorded nothing too fancy.
2nd disc: All the songs from the 1st disc but done acoustic, getting fancier as we go
3rd disc: All the songs from the 1st discs DONE DUB STYLE!! How fancy is that?!?

Yes I had to yell that, because I am soo excited. I love good dub. Yes good, because there is plenty of bad dub out there! But Rebelution doing dub is freaking good! How do I know this because they have released free downloads of some of their new songs, and I must say, it is quite amazing!

So you have some goals to achieve this week:
1. Go to http://rebelutionmusic.com/ and get yourself some free downloads.
2. Once you realize how great those are go back to that site and get yourself a copy of their cd!

Hope you enjoy. For one more last thought, I have a motto for 2012, which I got conveniently from a Rebelution song. "Bringing only good vibes" 2012 will be all about good vibes and positive energy!

It's not too late!

I'm back, and ready to blog

Before I start this post, I must apologize again and again for missing so many Music Mondays! I was going to wait and post this on a music Monday post, but I thought i must take a minute and explain myself and tell where I have been for the past few Mondays, but don't worry, I won’t go on and on about all that I have been doing.. I’ll keep it brief. (I’ll try at least)

1. Designing, Designing and more designing--- It feels like that is pretty much what has consumed me most hours of most days the past couple of weeks. Downside to this: everything else in my life has had to take a back seat. Upside to this: I have so many new designs that I am super stoked to start printing and share them with everyone.

2. Family stuffs--- This also has consumed a lot of my time in the past month. I mean they normally do consume a lot of time in a great way of course, but lately it’s been a lot of family time. Downside to this one: Not very easy to get stuff done with family parties every weekend (using the week before to prep you know) Upside to this one: I get to see my most favorite people in the whole world!

3. Life in general--- You know, work, sleeping, eating, breathing. It’s amazing how many days go by and you realize you really did nothing but just live.

I know, I know, I said I was going to keep it brief, but when have I ever kept anything brief, remember I LOVE talking. So now that you know what I have been up to, I hope you forgive me for not blogging, trust me if you have been missing it, then I have been missing it like a trillion times more (that’s a lot!) So be ready for Monday January 9th, I am going to throw so much awesome at you, you won't know what to do with yourself!!

Over and out-- Gold Canary (explanation on code name coming soon)

And in the meantime while you wait patiently for Music Monday to return, here is a song that I am absolutely in love with. Enjoy!

Yes this is the song from that one commercial! Go to their facebook for a free download of this song!

Photo-A-Day #6 Makes You Smile

Photo number SIX: Something that makes you smile. As always the one and only CHAP-STICK! What would we do with out you, smile a lot less that's for sure.  Pretty awesome isn't she.

Lets be friends: Chad VanGaalen

I see cool people all the time and always think to myself, man I would love to be there friend. That's exactly what I thought after watching this video. I know what you're thinking, I don't have time to watch a 12 minute mini-movie. But you know what, do your self and favor and take a break and enjoy this video. You deserve it. You can respond to those emails and Facebook stalk people later. Ok, so maybe you don't have to watch the whole thing, but at least listen to the first little ukulele song and there's another one near the end. They are both fantastic.  I'm pretty sure you'll be thinking the same thing I was, I want to be friends with that guy. If you like him check out THIS and if you like the way it was filmed check out THAT

"Oh I really can't guess how we can move though all of this mess."

Oh Chad, you're too cool. - Mint~Tea

Photo-A-Day Challenge!

Ahoy! So yesterday I was reading one of my favorite blogs GOODNIGHT LITTLE SPOON and came across this lovely photo challenge that FAT MUM SLIM was doing. (Her blog also has some amazing tips!) It looked like so much fun that I just had to join!  Although I'm a little behind, I'll just have to play catch up! Which is kinda the story of my life, always two steps behind.

Mint~Tea

Well ahoy there! So the other day me and Zoei were in the car and she turns to me and says, "If we ever need code names mine is Gold Canary." All I could think was, DARN that's a good code name. Ever since then I've wanted a code name also. But not a lame one that's boring. So after much debate me and Zoei finally came up with MINT~TEA. A few in the running were yellow ostrich and blue moon. But Mint~tea seemed to fit me well. Green is my favorite color and mint green does make my heart dance. Sometimes I drink tea, but I really added that because it sounded cool. So there you have it, I'm not sure if I'll ever need a code name. I can think of many situations were it might be helpful, but none that actually seem like they might happen. Regardless, I've got the name just to be safe.

Until we meet again- Mint~Tea. (aka) Remi (aka) The girl with the glasses that kinda looks like Ugly Betty

The beginning of the end.

Phew! What a year it has been! So many ups and downs, but we push forward! A new year and a fresh start. This year will be better if not equal to last. Or at least I hope. Oh, the high hopes for 2012. We just sent in our first designs for another company! Its a first for us, so very nerve racking like all new things. Still organizing the studio to get ready for tons of printing. (I'll post pictures soon) NEW NEW exciting happenings!

Lots of new years resolutions for 2012. Getting better at writing more blog posts being near the top of the list.I'm so glad Zoei has been doing MUSIC MONDAY, even though I've gotten lazy myself and haven't written a post for a long time. BUT, today is a new day. With that said, HAPPY 2012!
- Remi

bonus video: love this song, love the video even more.
