Roger, my hero

This blog post is dedicated to (and about) the one and only Roger Jennings.. Now before you get your hopes up i'm not talking about some overly attractive, tall handsome man.. No Roger is definitely one of a kind. So who is this Roger Jennings I am talking about? Well you could call him a silk screening guru, or you could call him just an old man who doesn't quite know how to use a video camera, but call him what you may, I will let you decide after watching just one Roger Jennings video.. But Roger will always have a special part in my heart, so Roger this blog is for you.

I first came across Roger on one of my normal boring Saturdays, you know the ones where you really have nothing to do, so you facebook it up, and when you have over done it on the updating and liking you obviously have only one thing left to do. Youtube. Now i'm not usually one to youtube practical things like how to load the dishwasher properly or anything like that, I'm more of a "lets youtube baby pandas" kinda gal, but this Saturday was different, I was on a mission, a mission to finally get a nice 2 color print silk screened, so once I had watched enough baby pandas I typed in 4 words that would forever change my life: Silk Screening Multiple Colors. Now Roger didn't just appear, not first, not even second third or fourth.. If i'm correct he might have not even been the fifth video to pop up.. But that did matter to me, even though this was obviously not a popular video, I found him that is all that mattered.. I click on this video, and I knew I had found gold when the video started and there stood Roger, looking awkwardly at the video camera, I'm sure waiting for for the camera to show some sort of sign that he can start.. And finally he sees his sign after standing there, awkward, weird, and unaware of how technologically slow he is, and he starts. And he just goes off.. at first I don't think anyone knows what exactly he is talking about, but he keeps going any how. And he just keeps going, and pretty soon, he looks like he is even thinking "what am I talking about?" I know what you are thinking, "But Zoei what is it that makes this man so great?" and my answer to you . Everything. The way he forgets what he is talking about half way through a sentence, the way how he doesn't know how to correctly operate his video camera, and my favorite, when he is talking about how to do something with a screen, but the camera is at the perfect angle that you can't see a single thing he is talking about. Genius, give this man a medal.

Now I know it may seem that I am being a little harsh and I may be talking badly of Roger, but the truth is all of his faults is what makes him so great, you can't help but watch his videos, and I really have learned a lot about silk screening, while laughing my little bum off all at the same time. So now I present you, Roger Jennings, on, well I don't quite know what this particular video is about, but its great.

Hope you enjoyed it, over and out--Zoei

April is already here!

Oh my, its April already! Shocking I know, I can't believe it myself. It seems like time is going by too fast these days! I love spring!  I definitely could use some sunshine! We have been very busy working on a new t-shirt design. Zoei and me are very excited about this one mostly because its our first 4 COLOR DESIGN! It sounds like a silly thing to get excited over, but man registration was a pain! But thanks to the fabulous Zoei we have a whole new system. Which is working out wonderfully! The print turned out way better then I had expected. Hopefully this weekend we will get them posted on our Etsy.  I'm also going to be posting some more notecards and stuff. It looks like its going to be a busy weekend for the brightside girls. As always we love any feed back we can get good or bad.

New stuff posted on Etsy!

Hello friends! Just a little update to tell you all what the Brightside girlies have been up too. Finally got some of our paper goodness posted up on our Etsy. We posted some hand made envelopes and stationary sets. I love writing letters and snail mail, there is nothing better then getting something in the mail that's not junk. We also have some postcards posted of some lomography photos I have taken with my lovely Diana-Mini. But I don't want to start rambling on about photography and lomography, I will spare you all the pain and save that post for a day when I run out of ideas to write about. We also have been making lots of thank you cards, which are always handy to have around. I will be posting those up on our etsy also, once I stop being so lazy. Also me and Zoei have been working on some new designs and ordering a new batch of shirts to start printing some new shirts soon! So look out for those. I will try to post pictures of our new designs as we get them done. Well I will try to, I am awfully forgetful these days. As always much love to all the support we are still getting from everyone!

Check out Etsy and get your self some of these fantastic envelopes! There perfect for sending letters! Lets face it everyone LOVES getting handwritten letters in the mail!

Postcards are awesome because they only cost .28 cents to send! Which is perfect if your cheap like me but still like to send friends little notes! If you like sending and receiving postcards you can always join postcrossing! Its an awesome site and its so much fun to receive postcards from around the world!

We got new junk!

Hello good friends! In case you haven't heard, we got some new printing junk! (wooohoo!) We mostly just got some new screens. Which we are super happy for because now we can retire our old wooden screens. Don't get me wrong, the wooden screens are lovely and get the job done. But light weight aluminum screens are AMAZING, and make printing so much more enjoyable. So now you know, if you ever do screen printing, spend the extra money and get the good screens. We also got some chemicals which should be interesting to experiment with.

We got a killer deal on the screens! Which makes me love them that much more!

The best part about ordering new supplies, is definitely the packaging peanuts! They are so useful!
Ways to re-use your packageing peanuts:
1) well, so you're stuff doesn't get damaged during shipping, of course!
2) alternative to confetti
3) use as snow during the summer ( same white fluffiness affect with out all the coldness.)
4)useful writing tool, you can leave lovely messages on the ground for people!

Update!

So after all the shirts we screened for Christmas, we have taken a little bit of a break. But we have some new designs we are working on. We are so stoked to start printing some new shirts. Most of you know that our studio is in the garage and is very cold during the winter so its oddly difficult to print when its chilly out, but we do it anyways. We are going to be preparing our screens this weekend and hopefully get some prints out soon. So keeps your eyes peeled, I will be posting some pictures this next week. Until then, enjoy some fantastic cute awesomeness! YAY!

I wouldn't mind having one of these, hes too cute!
<--------This guy is totally my new bestfriend!

                                                              -----BONUS!!!-----

Saturday, January 15, 2011

So it has been a while since we have posted anything on our blog so I thought I would take this lovely Saturday and do just that. There really is just so much that I could write about, Brightside is doing so great. But I would just like to take a minute and thank everyone who has supported us. We really wouldn't be able to do it without all of the support we get from friends, family and even strangers (in a non creepy way of course). Knowing that there are so many people in our lives that are there for us is seriously what keeps us going. There has always been that thought in the back of our minds of "What if no one likes our stuff" or better yet "What if no one buys our stuff and we are stuck with 200 printed tees?!?" But thanks to all of you we now know that people do like our stuff and thankfully we will not be stuck with 200 printed tees! There is a feeling we all get when someone buys a tee or even just comments on one of our facebook pics. It tells us that we are doing something, that we aren't just doing the whole brightside thing for nothing and that all of our hard work really is going towards something. So THANK YOU so much to everyone who has liked us on facebook, has looked at our etsy and a HUGE thanks to all of you who have bought tees. Your kindness doesn't go unnoticed, in fact we usually cheer to you at lunch! Thank you.

(It was either this or Thank you by Sly and the Family Stone, but this one seemed to fit a little better)
